JiangsuFoodScienceCollege is a full-time higher educational institution established by Jiangsu provincial government and administrated by Jiangsu Department of Education. It is the only state-run college which takes food industry as its development background and has made a feature on teaching and studying the application of food science and technology.
The college is located in Huai¡¯an, JiangsuProvince, a renowned historical and cultural city and also the hometown of Chou Enlai, the first premier of the People¡¯s Republic of China. The city has a sound water and air transport connection. Xinchang Railway, Ninglian Expressway, Beijing-Shanghai Expressway and JinghangCanal run through the city, the city airport has flights to main cities throughout China. All these make it an emerging transportation hub, a base of Taiwan-funded enterprises and an important commercial port in Jianghuai Plain. It covers an area of 209 acres£¬of which 144 acres is set aside as a natural area with green spaces to create an open atmosphere. The building area adds up to 262,600 square meters. The college has an enrollment of 10,000 full-time students and it is close to many places of interest such as the Zhou Enlai Memorial and the Residence of Wu Chengen, the author of the famous work, ¡°The Journey to the West¡±. It has a strong cultural atmosphere and clean environment which makes it an ideal place to study. 490 staff are working with the college, among whom 385 are teachers. In addition, we invite 294 professionals from companies and enterprises related to the major subjects studied to teach here. Of all the teachers, 16 are professors, 116 are associate professors, 156 have a Master or PhD degree, 4 act as chairman, vice director or comissioners of National HVE Teaching Guidance Committee in Specialty of food science, bio-technology and China Research Institute of Higher Vocational Education. 20 are elected as National Prominent Teachers, China Expert Chef, Candidates of provincial ¡°333 Project¡±, young-and-middle-aged academic pioneers of provincial ¡°Blue-green Project¡±, Provincial Prominent Teachers, Provincial Expert Chef, etc. 27 are elected as Outstanding Young-and-Middle-Aged Experts, Expert Technicians, Candidates of Huaian Municipal Personnel Development Project. The teaching teams of Food Processing Technology and Bio-technology and Application are titled as Excellent Teaching Teams of Jiangsu province. JiangsuFoodScienceCollege takes pride in serving as the leading body of National HVE Teaching Guidance Committee in Specialty of food science and the Talent Development and Innovation Base for Jiangsu provincial Food and Bio-technology majors. It now has 8 schools or departments including School of Food and Nutrition Engineering Department, Biological and Chemical Engineering, Hospitality and Tourism Management; Departments of Trade and Economics, Foreign Language Studies, Accountancy, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, and Applied Computer Technology etc and offers 38 majors including Food Processing Technology, Bio-technology and Application, Cuisine and Nutrition, Electromechanical Integration Technology, Marketing, Accounting, Business English etc. The majors cover the main aspects of food industry chain like production of food materials, food production, food quality control, food storage and transportation, cooking ect. The college has 2 National Excellent Courses, 3 Provincial Excellent Courses, 7 National ¡°Eleventh five-year¡± planned textbooks, 6 provincial excellent textbooks and 3 provincial featured majors. The Library and InformationCenter covers an area of 5 acres, which can meet the students¡¯ demand well. The 105 laboratories fall into 11 categories including food biology, biology, cooking, mechanical control, computing network, economics and logistics etc. among the laboratories, two are national-level projects and two provincial¨Clevel. All the equipments in the laboratories valued RMB 7.4 million. In addition, the college has cooperated with 6 enterprises, including Jiangsu King¡¯s Luck Brewery Corporation, in the construction of Food Science and TechnologyPark which covers an area of 12000 square meters. The park includes 7 production lines including bakery, meat products, milk and drinks, beer, yellow wine, grape wine etc. based on tasks, food quality and safety management laboratories and training centers are built in the field of microorganism technology, food bio-chemical inspection, instrumental analysis etc. and the production trainings are carried out in the way of production-based equipment, duty-based training, multi-function, enterprise-based management and open service, realizing the shift from material consumption to production training and commercial operation. The college opens National Occupational Skills Testing Authority, Occupational Skills Testing Station for Unique Occupations of Light Industry as well as the testing stations for national computer and CET examinations. More than 20 occupational skills testing including Chemical Analysis, Food Inspection, Bakery, Brewery, Cooking and Hospitality etc can be carried out in these stations. The average rate of ¡°degree + occupational skill certificate¡± of graduates reaches 98.6%. Cooperating with Yanghe Brewery Co. Ltd, King¡¯s Luck Brewery Co. Ltd, Yurun Group, Donghai Grain and Oil Co. Ltd, Huaian Economic and Technological Development Zone and other institutions, the college establishes 192 training bases outside the campus. The employment percentage has been over 98% over the recent years and the college has been awarded ¡°Advanced College of Graduates Employment, Jiangsu Province¡± for 4 consecutive years. The college serves as the presidency body of Jiangsu Vocational Group of Food Education which is formed by 75 food enterprises, vocational colleges, research academies and professional associations. It makes efforts to innovate joint management mechanism and explore construction of long-term cooperation mechanism between the college and enterprises. The college has joint-established School of Jiangsu Huai-Yang Cuisine with Jiangsu Province Dining Profession Association and cooperated closely with Jiangsu King¡¯s Luck Brewery Corporation in building King¡¯s Luck Brewery School, which provide an important stage for the college to further promote the reform of the education mode of ¡°MDF+WIL¡±£¬ which means Multi-Dimensional Fusion and Work-Integrated Learning, as well as the deep integration of industry, learning and research. The reform and innovation case of the college ,¡°Constructing 4-dimension Integration Cooperation stage, Promoting Deep Integration between colleges and enterprises¡± has been selected for display in the ¡°Charming Higher Vocational Education ¨C Exhibition of Serving the Development of Industries and 4 anniversary of the Construction of National Demonstrated Vocational Colleges¡±. With 50 years of development, the education level of the college and its ability to serve local social and economic development has been improved greatly and it has gained a good social reputation. The spirit of the college is embodied in the following four words: preciseness, truth-seeking, harmony and innovation; and its teaching ethos: diligent in study, personally committed and caring of students; and its study style: intelligence, knowledge- seeking and fulfillment. In its history of practicing education, JSFS has formed a solid foundation of education, and it has established itself as a distinctive food vocational college teaching brand with the characteristic of ¡°Centering Food Industry Chain, Strengthen the Development of Advantageous Majors¡±. Since 2006, teachers and students in JSFC has won as many as 200 credits in Jiangsu and national professional skills contests in such fields as food inspection, fermentation, cooking skills and controlling in chemical plants. The college has been conferred such titles as Jiangsu Civilized Unit, Jiangsu Peaceful Campus, Jiangsu Advanced Vocational Teaching Group, Jiangsu Advanced Unit in Moral Education, Jiangsu Advanced College Basic Party organizations. In December 2006, the college passed the National Evaluation on Talent Cultivation in HigherVocationalColleges and Universities with a prize for excellence. In July 2008, the college was assigned the construction of NationalModelHigherVocationalCollege by Jiangsu Province Department of Education. In November 2010, the college was identified as one of the National 100-Key Higher Vocational Colleges by Ministry of Education PRC and Ministry of Finance PRC. In October 2011, the program of ¡°Centering Food Industry Chain, Strengthen the Development of Advantageous Majors¡± honored the Outstanding Achievement Award in the competition of Jiangsu Higher Education Reform and Development. |
